The great strength of America has always been the immense diversity of our people; which has enabled us to adapt, survive and even prosper in an ever changing environment of challenges and opportunities.
That diversity is still our greatest asset, but it is being choked off in Washington. It can be enabled at the state, county and municipal level.
The key is sustained and affordable credit to stimulate locally directed economic development: new ideas, new technologies, job creation, strong local banks and sound municipal finances.
That is what public banking is all about.
Our vision is a Pennsylvania and America of broad and equitably shared opportunity, economic mobility, prosperity and a strong middle class – the historic foundation of healthy democracies.
Our goal is creation of partnership banks - often referred to as “public” banks – in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at the state, county or municipal level, to take back control of our money and public credit and use it to power widespread and locally directed investment in economic development, jobs creation and sources of non tax revenue to support vital public services.
Public Banking: Pro Taxpayer, Pro Jobs and Pro Prosperity
The introduction of widespread public banking in Pennsylvania and the U.S. will correct an obvious major failing of the Federal Reserve, which effectively holds the entire U.S. economy hostage to the systemic and cyclical failures of the Fed’s controlling private bank shareholders, the too-big-to-fail banks.
Public banks put public tax revenue, investments and assets to work on Main Street, not Wall Street, and generate revenue that comes back to taxpayers – without new taxes.
Through partnerships with community banks, credit unions, savings and loans and municipal authorities, public banks inject sustainable and affordable credit into local economies: for business start up and expansion, farmers, students, home buyers and home builders, economic development, infrastructure, assistance to municipalities and jobs.
The creation of public banks in Pennsylvania is a declaration of economic independence from Washington, Wall Street and the Federal Reserve.
